The Movie world experienced tremors in the early 90s with a new wave of Director & Film... the director: Quentin Tarantino; the Film: Reservoir Dogs. In 1994 the big Quake hit in the form of Pulp Fiction. It is a far more accessible movie than Dogs, with fun characters with non-plot relevant dialogue.
The non-linear disjointed sequence of events and three parallel interconnecting story lines make for necessary repeat viewing, as you are likely to be confused on your first viewing.... you need to exercise your Tarantino cerebral muscles, as you are not likely to have used them anytime before. This movie resurrected John Travolta's career, made Samuel L.Jackson the koolest cat on the block, made Bruce Willis convincingly art house, made movie soundtracks sell. Although it is very much a contempory movie set in LA, there is a very palpable sense of 50 nostalgia, pop culture references and street life. There are so many scenes that are classic moments: Jack Rabbit Slims twist contest; the Mia revival incident; the "I just shot Marvin in the face" sequence; and the two book end Diner hold up scenes. And what was in the suitcase? Highlight the following if you wanna know...... In greek mythology the Soul is removed from the back of the neck thus explaining the bandage on the back of Marcelus' neck and the 666 code on suitcase lock. This might tie in with the theme of redemption as perhaps Marcelus sold his soul to the devil & through some act of selflessness (sparing Butch's life) he was getting it back. |
